As a child, I was told that sport
would teach me the true values of life.
But in fact I learnt those
playing on the beach or in the backyard with friends
With BREAKING FREE we would like to laugh about a certain mindsets of sport. We hear them in the locker rooms’ speeches, in films or on sports commentaries: one must always give one’s all, you can never lose or fall behind.
But wasn’t sport supposed to be a game, first of all? What about collaboration and creativity? What about time for learning? What about time for making mistakes, which is the only way to learn?

Abate and Frola's direction and dramaturgy, always dynamic and full of pathos, engages the audience and makes them an essential part of the show. The compelling and fluid stage dialogue transforms the setting, a place for reflection, into a ring in which to throw away all the negative aspects of sport.

We laugh at sport, but with a bitter smile: it is no longer a game to enjoy, but a business, a space of perpetual conflict made up of false teachings, incorrect education aimed at domination, and the perverse role of parents.
